چکیده

In this paper the main performances of communication services based on low earth orbit satellites (LEOs) have been analyzed in order to evaluate their suitability for a typical set of power system monitoring functionalities. As an experimental test bed, an intelligent electronic device (IED) for remote monitoring and protection of power components equipped with a bi-directional communication system based on the LEO satellites of the Globalstar® consortium has been prototyped. Thanks to the adoption of this facility the main parameters characterizing the performance of the satellite TCP/IP services have been evaluated. They comprise in particular the connection time, the degradation of service and data latency for both packet and asynchronous data services. The experimental results obtained show that the application of LEO satellites based communication technologies exhibits a set of intrinsic advantages that could be particularly useful in several fields of power system communication. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. Beam width and transmitter power adaptive to tracking system performance for free-space optical communication.

The basic free-space optical communication system includes at least two satellites. To communicate between them, the transmitter satellite must track the beacon of the receiver satellite and point the information optical beam in its direction. Optical tracking and pointing systems for free space suffer during tracking from high-amplitude vibration because of background radiation from interstell...

Doppler Effect in Non-gso Satellite Propagation

Recent technological advances have accelerated a renaissance in usage of non-geostationary (non-GSO) communication satellites in provision of various services domestically and globally. Early ventures into communication satellites have used satellites in low Earth orbits. The main reasons for this mode of operation were that the booster technology was not available to lift satellites into a hig...

Routing in Low Earth Orbit (leo) Satellite Systems by Using the Genetic Algorithms

Today most of the satellite systems are designed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems.Because the satellites which are located in these orbits have small propagation delays than the satellites in other orbits. And also the closeness of LEOs to the earth gives them an advantage that there isn’t any need to the more power for having a communication with earth stations. In this study, we cons...

Iac - 13 - B 2 . 1 . 3 Gnss Performances for Meo , Geo and Heo

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) such as GPS, GLONASS, and the future Galileo and BeiDou, have demonstrated to be a valid and efficient system for various space applications in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), such as spacecraft orbit and attitude determination, rendezvous and formation flight of two or more spacecrafts, and timing synchronization. A GNSS presents a number of significant advan...

Evaluation of Geometric and Atmospheric Doppler for GNSS-RO Payloads

To reduce the sampling rate in global navigation satellite system (GNSS)-radio occultation receivers, it is essential to establish a suitable estimation of Doppler frequency from the received signal in the satellite onboard receiver. This receiver is usually located on low earth orbit satellite and receives GNSS satellites signal in the occultation situation. The occurred Doppler on the signal ...
